I arrived in Oslo around 11:30am on 21 May for a two-night stay and checked into the Scandic Byporten. I’m getting used to this hotel group. The rooms are the same and I know what I’m getting. They are close to the train stations which is a big plus for me.

I spent my first afternoon looking around the local area. The next day I would take a trip to the Polar and Kon-Tiki Museums.

The Polar Museum dealt mainly with the expeditions of Fridtjof Nansen, Otto Sverdrup and Ronald Amundsen. Their journeys to the Arctic and Antarctic were carried out on board the polar vessel Fram. It was on this ship that Amundsen beat Scott to the Antarctic. This museum has a small cafe on the ground floor. The eating areas are done in the style of cabins. At one end there is a window with old film showing some of Norways achievements in polar exploration.

Next door is the Kon-Tiki museum. I was surprised to find two of the vessels used by Thor Heyerdahl in his trips across the Pacific Ocean. This museum is worth taking time out for. Interesting history and story to tell.

My stay in Oslo was short but interesting. A fantastic city and well worth a visit. I left Oslo on 23 May and made my way to Berlin.
