I left 25Hour Hotel early this morning to walk to Paris Gare de l’Est to board the train to Hamburg. This would be a journey in two parts, and over 9hrs long. Some how, I missed the first train and had to buy another ticket and wait some 2hrs before I left Paris. The first leg of the journey was Paris to Mannheim where we had to wait for the next train to arrive and board it to Hamburg.
Nothing special about the journey just that it was cramped - for me anyways. By the time I got to Hamburg I hadn’t eaten all day. We got in around 8:15pm. It took 10 minutes or so to find my hotel for this evening - Hotel Furst Bismarck Hamburg. My room is small, warm and comfortable. I’ll stay longer in bed tomorrow as my plan is to do a direct journey
from Hamburg to Sweden and onto Kiruna if possible. Kiruna will will place me inside the Arctic Circle. The journey is estimated to be 27 - 30 hours long.
I was talking to my family back in Northern Ireland this evening. I told them that I found the 9hrs too long. However, I felt if I could do this one major push, as they say, it meant I could rest well Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday before beginning my trip proper.
Apparently, taking in starting from Belfast to Dublin. Crossing the sea to Cherbourg, to Paris, then to Hamburg my distance travelled so far is around 1250 miles. If I do this big push to Kiruna, my distance will be somewhere around 2755 miles.
